With this being a presidential election year, Home Front Magazine looks at which US Presidents wore a beard while in office. While there were others who sported mustaches and mutton chops, only these 5 presidents had a full beard.
- Abraham Lincoln – He was the first president to wear a
- beard in office. Lincoln’s style was a “chinstrap” beard, which meant the section above his upper lip was shaven.
- Ulysses Grant – Before elected, Grant wore a wild-style beard but neatened it up dramatically when he took office.
- Rutherford Hayes – Hayes was said to have the longest beard of all the US presidents.
- James Garfield – Garfield’s beard was black with streaks of grey in it.
- Benjamin Harrison – Harrison was the last president to wear a beard in office.
