Not This Year

November 2015 From the Editor Not This YearNow that November is here, it is a quick blink before the holiday season is in full force and I am left wondering why I didn’t start earlier. There is always a lot to do and not a lot of time. This is especially true with gifts that need to be shipped. I told myself that this year I want to plan better so that I can enjoy the season more and not feel so overwhelmed and rushed.

I have made out my gift recipient list and when I have a few minutes here and there (watching tv, sipping a cup of coffee, relaxing with the dog, etc), I take out my list and jot down ideas. I have never really liked wandering around the mall hoping that gift ideas will just come to me. I work better having some type of plan matching the people on my list to things I think they would like.

Last year taught me that planning ahead is much cheaper too. If you are ordering online or have shipping time deadlines to meet, you will save money and have a better selection doing it earlier. I did a lot of this last year but made the mistake with shipping issues, thinking I was ahead of the game when I was not. For example, I had to ship a box which needed gifts to four people and I had purchased gifts to three people way ahead of time but was stuck on the fourth gift. I ended up getting it late and had to wait on mailing the whole box last minute paying high postage. This year the boxes that have multiple people to the same address are my priority.  It is depressing when you end up paying more for shipping than the gifts themselves!!
