Lucky Me

May 2016 From The Editor weddingI am fortunate to be celebrating my 30th wedding anniversary this month. I know! It was odd for me to type in such a high number. While the time has gone by too fast to even comprehend, I am so appreciative that I have reached such a milestone. With so many marriages around me that have not lasted, I realize that I have a lot to be thankful for.

As anyone who has been in a long marriage will tell you, relationships are a lot of work.  Commitment and compromise are a huge part of it and being able to navigate through your differences is also key. I think in the beginning it is easy to think that you will be able to change the things about your spouse that bother you.  Somewhere down the road, you wake up and realize that you have to change the way you react to these differences. Communication should be ongoing and prioritizing the things that are really important is a must. If you agree on the major things and your values are in sync with one another, you are doing OK. Look around at what other people are going through. It is about perspective. There truly is a lot to be thankful for.
